1956 Shepherd V-drive Runabout - 'No School Today'
Owner: John Dort
Home Port: Wilmette, IL
Purchased in June 2013 up in Orillia, Ontario this was the culmination of about 4 years looking at Shepherds once I got the wooden boat bug. This was an unlisted boat that was referred to me through Ed Skinner who formerly ran Duke's Marine Services (out of the historic Duke's Boat shop) in Port Carling, Ontario. Although not original to the boat a 1957 392 hemi was rebuilt and fitted to the boat in 1991. The engine and transmission have required some attention and also I had the wiring and gauges replaced. Happily, the boat finally maid its US launch just this August in Lake Geneva.

Custom built by local boat builder Bill Budych along with Dude Assman, this boat was made especially for the Geneva Lake Water Safety Patrol, and launched in 1966. Budych's plans were somewhat of a cross between Chris Craft and Hackercraft qualities, and the boat was beefed up in order to take the pounding of a work boat on Geneva Lake. The Water Safety Patrol still uses this boat today, and it is considered the "Flagship" of the 6-boat fleet.

1950 Chris Craft Special Runabout - 'LADY LUCK'
Owner: John Canalle
Home Port: Richmond, IL
I purchased this boat 11 years ago from a guy in Michigan. He had intentions of restoring it, but never did. I have since replaced the keel, gripe, some frame members, the chines, hull, topsides , and deck with resawn philipine mahogany. All bedded in 5200. The interior wood was stripped and sanded. the engine housing sides were re glued and a new engine cover deck was installed. We rebuilt the engine, and made it a 12 volt system. The boat was not named when I got it. I'm a Frank Sinatra fan, and looked up what song was written in 1950....... Luck Be A Lady. It was a lot of tedious work, sometimes I had to walk away for a while, but It was worth it. LADY LUCK is a fun boat on the water.
1947 Chris Craft Rocket - 'Class of `47'
Owner: Perry Edwards
Home Port: Muskego, WI
1948 Ventnor Sport Runabout
Owner: Larry Lange
Home Port: Lake Geneva, WI
Since 1902 Ventnor has been known as “the builders of the worlds fastest speed boats” with such recognized Gold Cup winners as “My Sin”, “Hotsy Totsy”, “Tempo”, and “Tempo IV”
During war time Ventnor built large aircraft rescue boats and submarine chasers. Following the war Ventnor entered the pleasure boat market with single engine runabouts and twin engine cruisers. At this time Ventnor’s reputation for building the worlds fastest speed boats carried a lot of weight. When the “finned” runabout was unveiled it did draw a lot of attention, but had a high price tag ($3,990) due to the complexity of the design and of course the labor to execute the design on the factory floor.
Remember this was 1947. Fins on cars didn’t become popular until 10 years later and even when Chris Craft came out with the Cobra it wasn’t as well received as the designers thought.
After personally completing a frame-off restoration of a rare 1940 Pontiac Woody Wagon in 2003 for myself, and looking for another challenging project to work on in the evening and weekends, I came across this equally rare 1948 19’ Ventnor Sport Runabout; with only six other of these particular models left in existence.
The boat was a total wreck with the decks of the boat being crushed, bottom and sides were fiberglass up to the top decks, bottom was rotten, transom rotten, and a couple holes in the sides.
The project was postponed, and restoration started in January 2011. The new deck planks are compound curved, tongue & grooved Honduras mahogany that is “blind nailed” as it was originally constructed. As you can see there is no perimeter seam where the decking meets the covering boards; also as originally constructed. The new covering boards are compound curved, stack laminated, nailed cove and bead mahogany like a canoe with the last piece having a rabbet that accepts the decking. Every individual plank had to be measured at every frame station to make sure from port to starboard, to the centerline of the hull was the same for every plank, or the last two planks at the front of the motor hatches wouldn’t be the same (They are within 1/32”).
The boat is restored to all original “as built” factory specifications right down to the motor clamps, tacked upholstery, wiring, etc. An interesting construction feature for this Ventnor in 1948 was a bottom of 5-ply Weldwood inner plywood with 9/16 Mahogany outer planking. Another feature is the non-trip chine which is taken from there racing hulls. The motor is the “Factory racing version” of a stock Grey Marine 150 hp twin carburetor Fireball. This boat is currently the only correctly restored Ventnor of this model in existence.
During the 2011 36th Annual ACBS International Boat Show the boat won an unprecedented amount of awards -
1st Place Restored Classic Runabout
We enjoy bringing the boat out to boat shows to see the response of the spectators and other boat owners of this unique design.

1961 Shepherd Runabout
Owner: Alan Bosworth
Home Port: Elmhurst, Il
Shepherd Boats were built in Niagara-on-the-Lake….Ontario, Canada. This specific Shepherd was on display at the Chicago Boat Show in 1961 when my Aunt & Uncle bought it new. In 1993 the Shepherd’s bottom needed replacing at which time my Uncle debated selling it. However he passed away right before doing so.A few months later I decided it was well worth saving the boat, keeping alive so many fond memories of fishing & riding (getting soaked) in Uncle Muff’s Shepherd. The boat has gone thru a couple of restorations yet still has most of the original wood. The original Chrysler motor was rebuilt once and is still in use. This boat has been docked at Pier #1 since 1961 on Geneva Lake for the last fifty-two(52) years.

1962 Hacker Budych Hacker - 'Thumper'
Owner: William Budych
Home Port: Lake Geneva, WI
A one of a kind craft. William Budych Sr. built this boat for himself in my grandmothers garage. Sr was working for Mr. Russel Gage at the time. Dad and he had a great relationship, one hand washes the other. The boat was constructed for dad's personal use, however, it became the FLAGSHIP for sales of the 22' Gage Hackers. Bill Sr. headed up all of the production of the 23' Gage Hackers. They attempted to build a few after he had left & you can certainly tell the fit and finish of the couple built after his departure. This boat is a family treasure, never to be sold or traded.

1959 Chris Craft Sportsman - 'Till Havs'
Owner: David B. Williams
Home Port: Williams Bay, WI
This boat has been on Lake Geneva since newly purchased in 1959. The original owner named it “C deuce” (a capital “C” followed by a deuce of hearts). The third owner, who’s mother immigrated from Sweden, renamed the boat “Swedish Crossing”. The current owner, who is an opera lover, renamed the boat “Till Havs”, a Swedish art song sung by the great Swedish tenor, Jussi Bjorling, meaning “to the sea”. This boat is basically original except for the upholstery and has received tender loving care from Bill Budych and Bill Budych, Jr. for 53 years!
1956 Chris Craft Continental - 'Lone Palm'
Owner: Gary Paxson
Home Port: Lake Geneva, WI
This boat was the family boat for the Cameron's of Geneva Lake Boat Co. I had restoration started on her 1996-2013. Had always wondered why people took so long to do them. I found out Money, the economy and life itself. the journey to completion was long but more rewarding than I ever imagined. Though I had this work done at The Delavan Lake Boat Shed I did get hands on and dirty. I learned much about boats, construction, patience, and people. The journey took me to a couple of courses at Wooden Boat School in Maine; Lofting and Fundamentals of boat building. Most importantly the people who put their skilled hands on Lone Palm is what I will cherish the most. There are only 8 pieces of original wood, you will see none of them. Did this cost more than the plan? yes did I complain? No, It's a boat there is no rationalization. The Joy I get when I ride in her, but really the joy is watching the faces of the men and women who built her when we spring launch and fall decommission her. The joy I see on the family faces and that special someone is priceless. That's why I want to do it again God willing. The name comes from a Jimmy Buffett song , and a metaphor for me; though it is possible to add another palm tree.

1957 Chris Craft Sportsman
Owner: Pat Penhallegon
Home Port: Dalton City, IL
This boat is one of 68, 20' Chris Crafts built in 1956. Because it was built late in the year, it was altered at the factory to be sold as a 1957.
It was originally delivered to Lake Decatur in Decatur, Illinois. I am the fourth owner having purchasing it from its previous owner in 1974.
With the help of a good friend/talented woodworker, the bottom framework and planking was completely replaced with new mahogany and with all new Silicon Bronze screws and bolts. The bottom planking design was upgraded to include modem sealers and 3M-5200 adhesive bedding compounds as described in Don Danenberg's first book on Antique and Classic Wooden Boat Restoration.
In 2012 the boat was sent to Danenberg Boatworks in Manistee, Michigan. The topside planks have all been removed, refurbished, sealed and reinstalled with new Silicon Bronze fasteners and modem sealers and 3M-5200. The decks and Transom are all new Philippine mahogany. The entire interior furniture and ceiling planking have been rebuilt, stained and varnished and reinstalled. The exterior has been faired, stained, sealed, and varnished and painted. The restoration was completed in June of 2014.
The boat is powered by the original Chris Craft MCL (175 hp).
1960 Century Resorter - 'Gini'
Owner: Brad Flodin
Home Port: Lake Tahoe, NV
Just got this Resorter from my cousin in Lake Tahoe as an early Christmas present. She pulled it out of barn where she sat for over 40 years and it wasn't in very good shape. After a 5 year restoration done by Chris Ford it looks a whole lot more like what it is suppose to look like. Every inch of this beauty has been redone from the bow to the transom and everything in between including a total rebuild of the 170 HP V8 Ford Interceptor motor and the rare lite green interior. It even still has the original flooring and trailer.

1955 Chris Craft Sportsman - 'Rare Stake'
Owner: Jake Hepner
Home Port: Lake Geneva, WI
Chris Craft boats have been part of our family since my grandfather was a kid. I was lucky enough to have him introduce me to this world as a youth growing up near the Illinois River, and even more significantly, getting to work on and enjoy riding in his boats with him as I grew up. This beautiful boat is a 1955 Christ Craft Sportsman. It was originally shipped from Cadillac, Michigan to Dredge Harbor Yacht Basin, New Jersey. It has the original Hercules Christ Craft motor.
We don't know much of its history before it came to my grandparents. My grandpa found it in rough shape, to say the least. After a few years of getting it into mint condition my grandpa had it on the waters of Green Lake, Wisconsin and a couple bodies of water in LaSalle County. The beauty exists in the care, the sound, the beauty, and the pride it creates.
1957 Chris Craft Continental - 'Birchwood'
Owner: Karen Birch
Home Port: Barrington, IL
This boat was purchased new in February of 1957 by Karen's late parents, Robert and Maxine Birch, of Griggsville, IL. Her dad became a Chris Craft dealer in 1956 and Karen has his original franchise certificate. This boat is all original and Karen has the boat's original order form, invoice, service manuals, prop, fenders, hand spot light, ladder and water skies that her dad used. Her dad's captain hat sits so proudly on the boat's dash. Karen uses one of the original canvas boat covers that had never been used and was being stored in her dad's attic. This boat spent most of its time on the Illinois River in central Illiniois where Karen has great family memories. The last time the boat was in the water was in the summer of 1978 on the Mississippi river. Since then the boat had been sitting on her orginal cradle and boat trailer in a machine shed on the family farm. In May of 2010 the boat was transported by flatbed to McHenry, IL where it was completely restored by Fox River Valley Boat Company. The boat was never named so Karen choose "Birchwood" in memory of her late parents. Karen's late parents are always with her on this boat and this boat is a constant reminder of how wonderful her parents were and the fabulous childhood they gave her.
1960 Chris Craft Continential - 'At Last'
Owner: David Vogeler
Home Port: Trout Valley, IL
This 1960 Chris Craft Continental is in the utility class of antique and classic boats. It was one of the more popular models manufactured in 1960 by Chris Craft due to its versatile layout. While mostly used for family pleasure boating, the open cockpit made it a great design for fishing or skiing. In 1960 the base model sold for $4,210.00. At that time the average salary was $4,743.00 a year. The boat came equipped with the standard Chris Craft K engine a straight 6 which produced 100HP, or the optional V8 with 185HP for the jaw dropping additional fee of $60.00 or about a weeks salary. This boat was equipped with the high performance 283 Corvette engine which became available in the latter part of 1959. The higher horsepower and torque of the Corvette engine made it ideal for pulling skiers. It was also fitted with a center mounted ski pole. Top speed is just over 40 mph. The boat was delivered to Chris Craft Boat Sales Inc. located at 2500 S. Ashland Avenue in Chicago on January 28, 1960. The boat was found rotting and in disrepair in 2000. A complete restoration was performed in 2005. There were 497 Continental’s manufactured from 1959 to 1960. Only 41 are known to still be operating today.
1959 Century Resorter - 'Fifty-Nine'
Owner: Jim Hayek
Home Port: Davenport, IA
She is #135 of 180 produced in 1959. She is made with the classic "Carrier Deck" front end which gives the hull a beautiful contour of mahogany. And, one of the dryest rides on plain by rolling out the wake. She has the Graymarine V8 327 cu. in. engine which produces 225 HP and will run 45 mph at 4000rpm. But that is rare because she now is over 50 yrs. old. And as all wooden boat she just like to idle along and rumble... They came with a sliding leather convertible top, which I don't own because Matt Byrne won't sell me his with out the boat under it. She also came with a built in 3 rung ladder mounted on the back. She's real fine my "Fifty-Nine"
1980 Millerick Brothers Boat Works Edwardian fantail motor launch - 'PINK HOUR'
Owner: Peter Mueller
Home Port: Lake Forest, IL
This boat was found in the woods of a Sonora, California estate. Originally steam powered, the 30' ten gauge steel hull built in 1980 by Millerick Brothers Boat Works was not operational but in excellent condition and showed great potential. She went through an eight year restoration of labor and love by Tom Batchelor of Reno, Nv. "Pink Hour" was stripped to bare metal, repainted, and refitted with a beautiful, meticulously restored 3 cylinder 20 hp Easthope gas engine. Original brass hardware and accessories were scrounged from collectors, swap meets, and salvage yards across the country, and what couldn't be found was carefully recast, machined, and fabricated in the correct period style. She can seat 8 passengers comfortably, and the top of the teak icebox doubles as a sitting area. The Easthope pushes her along at full hull speed ( 6 knots) at approximately 150 rpm, using less than one gallon of fuel per hour from her 30 gallon tank. She has both fore (cable) and aft (mechanical) steering as well as full reversing gear. Since her restoration, she has operated solely on the clear, pristine waters of Lake Tahoe. Recently she was purchased by Peter and Robin Mueller and moved to Lake Geneva, Wis. Engine specifications: 3 cylinder, 4-1/2" bore, 6" stroke, dual ignition (Bosch magneto and 12V coil), OHV, hidden 12V starting system that replaces the original hand start. A neatly installed alternator runs via a flat belt off the flywheel. Lubrication is by internal splash and external Manzel oiler which runs off the water pump connecting rod. Water circulation is by an exposed original bronze piston pump. The reversing gear and engine are mounted on a single integral cast bedplate and weighs approximately 1,200 lbs. Unique accessories: two wicker parasol holders and period-style parasols, original hand-operated "ah-oo-gah" horn from the Talking Horn Company, two Pyrene brass fire extinguishers, antique brass boat hook, porcelain knife switches for operation of lights, Saint Christopher medal, matching set of original Cello running lights and stern spotlight, original Phare-La Rai bow searchlight, and an illuminated binnacle. A spectacular example of an Edwardian fantail motor launch, she won both People's Choice and Most Elegant Boat at the prestigious lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance in August 2008. Named for the alpenglow on Lake Tahoe's eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, "Pink Hour" is truly a magnificent piece of functional art which starts and runs beautifully and is easy to launch and operate. She is one of a kind and without equal.

2013 Glen-L Gentlemans Racer - 'Attitude'
Owner: Craig & Vivi Smith
Home Port: Clinton, IA
Using plans from Glen-L I built this boat in 21 months. The cold-mold construction utilized African mahogany epoxy resin. The bottom has a fiberglass layer for protection. All of the reliable mechanicals were salvaged from a retired ski boat. The engine and prop were rebuilt and the fuel tank was modified to fit the boat. The trailer was reconfigured to match this hull. Building this boat was a wonderful experience with a steep learning curve.

Owner: Glenn Elston
Home Port: Rock Island, IL
From the water line up Ooh Oui's lines are that of a 1939 Century Thunderbolt. Beneath the water it's a modern delta-conic hull, dry and stable. This synthesis of old and new is rendered in fiberglass with wood grain look. It's powered by a 175 hp Mercury Sport Jet. Ooh ee, jet boat fun! Oh Yea, wood look without the wood maintenance. Ooh Oui. My family loves this boat. Three can ride in the main cockpit leaving the beautiful long bow deck undisturbed. Or, the hatch on the bow deck can be removed for access to a jumpseat with room for two more passengers.

1973 Chris Craft XK22
Owner: John Gambill
Home Port: Hillsdale, MI
When I sold my1957 Arena Craft Barracuda just two weeks before the ACBS International Boat Show in Branson Mo in September 2012 she had already been registered for the show so at just two weeks before the show I was boatless and had already made and paid for everything in Branson, hotel, boat registration fees etc. I went on Craig’s List and found this 73 Chris Craft XK 22 in Lorain Ohio. Julia and I made a Sunday trip to Lorain Ohio to see the boat. She was in such poor condition I just didn‘t think I wanted to tackle a job of that magnitude so we drove home without her. Not being able to get that darn boat out of my mind three days later I drove back to Lorain and bought the boat. She was a real mutt!! however, she did run so off to Branson we went . She was in such poor condition that she certainly couldn’t be entered for judging but she did go on display with a big sign taped on her stern that the boat was just purchased a few days before the show and that the restoration would start in two weeks. The first week of October 2012 she was placed in the garage and totally stripped out and the restoration began, she was finally finished on 6/6/ 2014.
It’s been a long hard road with hundreds of hours spent fixing, grinding sanding and filling imperfections, however, I think the final end result has been well worth all the hours and work. She has some sizzle and lots of bling! and so I think she will stand her own and the best part of all is the fact that she runs through a two foot chop like it isn’t even there!
I hope everyone enjoys viewing her half a much as I did making her live again hopefully for another four decades and beyond.
Remember, "Classic Glass" lives forever!

Owner: W.J. GOES

I purchased in 1973, third owner. The second had a year and never used. I know the original family from our next door lake of Delavan Lake. Her original name was Holdmore, for her sister ship was named ucanalgo. a family rivalry of boat names and capacity. The name is Executive Privilege but is not no the transom. She is not designated by name. A wonderful wave riding boat with high sides, able to walk around, change positions, not just seated for your entire ride...... See you on the water......

1963 Thompson & Thompson Breakers
Owner: Robert Oday
Home Port: Cary, IL
This is what I call an “Oh by the way” boat. Four years ago we were in the market for a 60’s vintage outboard motor. We located one in suburban Milwaukee and drove up to take a look. The motor was great and we agreed to buy it and then the “Oh by the way” came up – Oh by the way if you want the motor you need to take the boat and trailer as well! At first glance this boat would never see the water again as it had a nice hole in the hull and delaminating wood. On the way home all I was thinking about was how could I turn it into a bar? Well after getting it home my ideas went up in smoke, as after my son Mitchel, our neighbor Andrew Vogeler and I looked it over, all we would need to do is make the hull repair, varnish and paint and we would have a good all original user boat. So, after a winters worth of work, another wood boat got added to the collection.

Most of the planking is original. The Rebel is one of only two 19' Streblows built in 1958, and has the original Cal Connell Cadillac Crusader 390 cu. in. engine. Only one other Streblow used this engine, which was the most powerful engine available in 1958. The Rebel is used regularly on the Fox Chain in Northern Illinois.

1973 Streblow 26 Custom - 'West End Girl'
Owner: Tom Marek
Home Port: Fontana, WI
West End Girl is a 1973 Sterblow 26 Custom. It is the first 26 V-drive the Sterblow family ever produced. The original owner was Bruno Presky from Long Grove, IL who also had a summer residence on Geneva Lake, where the boat has spent its entire life. I purchased the boat from Bruno in August 2003. The boat has consistently logged between 130-160 hours of use per season over the last 10 years. Routine maintenance and some refresh of the wood has been performed over the years as needed however we decided in December, 2012 it was time to perform a complete restoration of the boat. This was done by Streblow Custom Boats. The process started with the heart of the boat, the powertrain. It was originally powered by a 440 Chrysler, however we decided to purchase a brand new Crusader 496 cubic inch high output motor mated to a brand new Velvet Drive transmission and Walter V-drive spinning a high performance 4 blade propeller. There are no mufflers on the exhaust system and there are 4 inch diameter exhaust pipes on the stern of the boat. Needless to say the boat has an excellent sound and performs quite well. All of the woodwork was taken down and refinished, the bottom paint and white paint is all new with the addition of black accent stripes, all deck hardware was re-chromed and new carpet, windshield, dashboard, gauges, air horns, cowl material and a steering wheel were added. The boat previously had deck rails on the stern of the boat, these were removed to give the boat a more sleek appearance. Also removed was the swim ladder located in the middle stern of the boat and traded out for an integrated wood swim platform with spring ladder. The upholstery is mostly original Chestnut colored Naugahyde material however some of the worn pieces have been replaced as you can still purchase Chestnut Naugahyde. Streblow did a wonderful job restoring the boat, I couldn't be more pleased with how it came out.

1970 Streblow Sports Utility - 'Mr T III'
Owner: Don Taylor
Home Port: Williams Bay, WI
In February 2001, I purchased a 1970 Streblow custom wood boat. This twenty three foot beauty had a great history that accompanied the boat Namely, a gentleman from northern Illinois, William D. Wallace, was a partner in a silver mine with John ‘Duke’ Wayne Wallace purchased the boat new from the Streblow factory in Kenosha, WI.,and they decided to name the boat “HI LO SILVER”, a very fitting name. They operated the pleasure craft on Lake Delavan in Wisconsin, for almost ten years. John Wayne passed away in 1979. With the drop in the price of silver in 1980, they decided to sell the boat. Larry Streblow and son Randy purchased the boat and retuned it to their factory in Kenosha. The Streblow family remodeled the boat and kept it for personal use for a couple of years until it was sold to Gregg Liebovich from Rockford, Illinois. He kept the boat for eighteen years on Geneva Lake. After cruising Geneva Lake over the summer, I load the boat and haul it on my annual journey back to Lake Eustis, Florida, where I, along with the help of my friends, refinished the boat and renamed it ‘Mister T III’. John Wayne would be impressed with the revitalization of “HI LO SILVER.”
