1937 Chris Craft Custom Deluxe - 'Olivia Rose'

This is the pre-barrel back design produced from 1935-1938. It has the same hull but different deck layout. It is estimated that a total of 328 units were built in this 4 year period.
Not sure about the early history of this 19’ Custom but do know she spent much of her time on Lake Geneva and was in remarkably good condition when purchased in the summer of 2012. She has the Model K 85hp engine and has been converted to 12 volts with dual batteries.
Fox River Valley Boat Company completed the exterior restoration over the winter as we elected to completely strip to bare wood and finish it with 12 coats of varnish. The interior, the chrome and all the mechanicals were in great shape and just required a good cleaning.

RUMOUR was completed in Algonac, Michigan and shipped to Miami, Florida, on January 27, 1941 which was my father’s 1st birthday. The same day, the following “rumour” was leaked: Joseph Clark Grew, US Ambassador to Japan wired a warning to FDR and the US State Department on January 27, 1941: "The Peruvian minister has informed a member of my staff that he had heard from many sources, including a Japanese source, that, in the event of trouble breaking out between the United States and Japan, the Japanese intended to make a surprise attack against Pearl Harbor...."
1937 Chris Craft Custom Runabout - 'What Fun'

Purhased in 1973 for $1 (plus legal fees!), the What Fun has usually lived up to its name! Fully restored, 2000-2008. The WHAT FUN is a 1937 17’ Chris Craft custom runabout, acquired September 23, 1973 for $1 (and attorney’s fees of $10). At that time, I began the initial restoration but despite these efforts, the boat continued to sink. It was left in storage for more than 25 years, until the turn of this century -- when the fix-up really began. An uphill battle, but I’m gaining on it! The vessel’s name comes from another project of mine -- a 1969 BMW motorcycle with a side-car ride that I restored. While I was riding the bike on the Gold Coast of Chicago, a female onlooker commented, “What fun.” I couldn’t have agreed more, and thought her words might also apply to my boat. The name can be taken two ways: when it’s running, “What Fun!”; when not running, “What Fun?”

Originally shipped to Delavan Lake, WI, Double Barrel has spend most of its life in the Geneva Lake Area. Double Barrel underwent an extensive restoration by Bergersen Boat Co. in 2015. Boat was painstakingly restored to original condition with all of it's original hardware & Bugatti type windshield re-chromed, engine rebuilt, custom made banjo wheel with tan marble, new tan pig skin upholstery, new flooring, gauges restored, new custom fuel tank, all re-wired with period correct wiring and a new full waterline cover. The Elsa Dee is a c. 1936 20’ guide boat. She was built by The Sunflower Boat Works (prop. Fabian Woodzika) on the shores of Tomahawk Lake in Oneida County Wisconsin.
The Sunflower Boat Works began building boats in 1914 and continued until the mid-1960s.
Elsa Dee is powered by a Gray Marine Phantom 4.
The boat’s restoration was completed in 2016. She is mostly original. The only replaced wood components are: 2 stringers, 11 ribs, keel and floor. The hardware and running gear are original. Upholstery is patterned from original.
The Elsa Dee has spent its entire life on the Minocqua chain of lakes.
She is owned by Don and Bonnie Bergman of Lake Tomahawk, WI.

1946 Chris Craft Deluxe Express Cruiser - 'Sentimental Lady'

This year Sentimental Lady celebrates her 70th birthday. She is older than her proud owner, but in much better condition. She is a 28 foot Chris Craft Express Cruiser build in 1946. She is powered by her original six cylinder engine that still runs as smooth as a sewing machine. For the last 20 years her home port has been Lake Monona. Before then, she was docked in a harbor in Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Her prior owner was a scoundrel real estate developer who had to sell her fast and cheap on his way out of town before the Federal indictment got served. The present owner hauled her over the Rocky Mountains. Since her arrival, she has been twice restored. Her top side is mahogany, but her white hull sides and double planked bottom are cedar. She is fully original, with two exceptions. The Brazilian Cherry deck replaced the original cedar deck and the roof top Cleopatra’s Chair is a whimsical add on. Her top speed is 18 mph, but she does not like speed. She prefers a leisurely stroll so on lookers and get a good view of her sexy curves.

1956 Shepherd V-Drive Runabout - 'Hound Dog'

Shepherd was a Canadian manufacturer from the 1930s to 1960s of mostly wooden boats and a few fiberglass boats located near Niagara Falls. While less known here in the US, their boats are well respected due to their styling, tough build and high freeboard making them good for choppy water. I acquired this boat in 2013 after four years of research from the Muskoka lake region north of Toronto. The boat has sat for seven years unused and so I repainted the bottom and had two professional shops perform engine work (new intake and exhaust manifolds, new v-drive transmission due to a crack in the old one) and for the boat: complete re-wire, new gauges, fuel tank cleaning and new fuel lines and repainting the bilge. I was finally able to put in the water in August 2014. The engine is not original to the boat and was put in this boat in the early 1990s. While the Chrysler Marine division made both 331 and 354 Hemis as ground-up marine engines, this auto engine was originally made for the 1957 Chrysler New Yorker and is the 392 Hemi. It has various marine components which make it "marinized." It has a single four barrel Carter carburetor and just earlier this year was converted over to electronic ignition. The boat is used quite regularly on Lake Michigan and nearby lakes and is taken care by Lars Bergersen up in Lake Geneva area.

1965 Custom-Bill Budych Runabout - 'Water Safety Patrol Boat #1'

Custom built by local boat builder Bill Budych along with Dude Assman, this boat was made especially for the Geneva Lake Water Safety Patrol, and launched in 1966. Budych's plans were somewhat of a cross between Chris Craft and Hackercraft qualities, and the boat was beefed up in order to take the pounding of a work boat on Geneva Lake. The Water Safety Patrol still uses this boat today, and it is considered the "Flagship" of the 6-boat fleet.

This craft from Norton Boat Works at the 2012 Geneva Lakes Antique and Classic Boat Show. It was chosen the best Century at that show and also at the 2013 show. Joe Norton located the craft in Iowa and completely rebuilt it and installed a new Mercury 3.0 135 HP engine. It was completed just 2 weeks before the 2012 show.

Shepherd Boats were built in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. I was with my family at the Chicago Boat Show in 1961 when my Uncle Muff decided to buy this specific Shepherd. At the same show my Dad decided to trade in the family wood lapstrake Lyman boat for our first fiberglass boat manufactured by IMP. I remember going to the Chicago Stockyard Inn afterwards to celebrate the purchase. This Shepherd has been docked at Pier #1 on Geneva Lake for the last 55 years.

1947 Ventnor Sport Runabout

The boat was a total wreck when purchased. The decks were crushed, holes in the sides, fiberglassed up to the covering boards and the transom was completely rotten. All the deck boards are compound curved and blind nailed onto the deck framing just as it was done in the Ventnor factory. There are only a handful of these boats left due to the extreme difficulty of repairing or restoring. This particular boat is the only 100 point, (A.C.B.S. judging) as built from the factory 1947 Ventnor in existence. This was a personal project for me and was a fun and challenging.

1967 was the last year Century manufactured a mahogany wood hull. The boat was order and delivered to Kramer’s in Fox Lake, IL for Rex Fitzpatrick of Elmhurst, IL. We purchased the boat from Rex in 1986. We did a moderate restoration in1986/1987 and a complete restoration in 2001/2003 including the hull, decks, chrome and interior. Powered by this original Chrysler 325 HP motor, Miss Millie will do approximately 40 MPH. The boat has won numerous awards and we enjoy her every summer.

1952 Chris Craft Holiday - 'Lucky Penny'

The "Lucky Penny" is a 1952 23' Chris Craft Holiday with the original MBL engine, original chrome hardware, and mostly original woodwork. The 23' Holiday was built between 1950 and 1953 and the "Lucky Penny" is 1 of 88 ever built with it being hull number 86. A complete restoration was first started in 2004 by the Fox River Valley Boat Company and she is still maintained by Tom Wagner and his crew. In 2014/2015 the hull and topside was stripped of all varnish, caulk and paint and 8 to 12 coats of new varnish was applied along with new caulk striping on the bow and underside painting and detailing. Over the years we have been diligent in keeping the "Lucky Penny" as original as possible to get a true feel for what boating was like 65 years ago. Now she spends all of her time cruising the beautiful waters of Geneva Lake from her home port of Williams Bay.

Hi! My name is THUMPER. I was conceived in 1960 and born in 1962. My builder, William Budych Sr., was a well known mechanical engineer and boat builder. In 1960, William Budych Sr. was employed by Mr. Russell Gage of Gage Marine. At that time William Budych Sr. was responsible for the production of the 22ft. Gage Hackers. His responsibilities included tank testing the models at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, patterning and fabrication all the patterns for the hulls structure; also, overseeing the production process. The first hull built plowed bad so Sr. decided to remove some of the chine, run out the stern. Due to these changes the builds that came after handled and performed well. William Sr. decided it was time to build one of his own and the production of me started, in his mother's garage for a personal boat of his own; during his free time. I think my appearance speaks for Sr's. excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. I am grateful that my owners, all Geneva Lakefront families, have taken great care and maintained me above and beyond the usual; for the last 51 years. My creator, William Budych Sr., also is well known for building the Water Safety Patrol Boat #1; with the assistance of Duane (Dude) Assman. It is, to this day, the only existing (in service) wood patrol boat in the U.S. at this time. William Budych Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on December 5, 2008. He created a huge legacy of being an excellent mechanical engineer, 1st class boat builder; along with being a very successful business man. He was also and excellent father and teacher. I am very proud and pleased that I have come back home to the Budych family. I was purchased by Sr's son, William Budych Jr. in 2012. Jr. continues to operate Sr's marine business that was created over 45 years ago. Jr. has been involved for 35 years and had the great opportunity to operate as President and owner of 20 years. I know that I am now in the best care and will enjoy the Budych family for generations to come. THUMPER

This boat was purchased new in February of 1957 by Karen's late parents, Robert and Maxine Birch, of Griggsville, IL. Her dad became a Chris Craft dealer in 1956 and Karen has his original franchise certificate. This boat is all original and Karen has the boat's original order form, invoice, service manuals, prop, fenders, hand spot light, ladder and water skies that her dad used. Her dad's captain hat sits so proudly on the boat's dash. Karen uses one of the original canvas boat covers that had never been used and was being stored in her dad's attic. This boat spent most of its time on the Illinois River in central Illinois where Karen has great family memories. The last time the boat was in the water was in the summer of 1978 on the Mississippi river. Since then the boat had been sitting on her original cradle and boat trailer in a machine shed on the family farm. In May of 2010 the boat was transported by flatbed to McHenry, IL where it was completely restored by Fox River Valley Boat Company. The boat was never named so Karen choose "Birchwood" in memory of her late parents. Karen's late parents are always with her on this boat and this boat is a constant reminder of how wonderful her parents were and the fabulous childhood they gave her.

1960 Chris Craft Continental - 'At Last'

This 1960 Chris Craft Continental is in the utility class of antique and classic boats. It was one of the more popular models manufactured in 1960 by Chris Craft due to its versatile layout. While mostly used for family pleasure boating, the open cockpit made it a great design for fishing or skiing. In 1960 the base model sold for $4,210.00. At that time the average salary was $4,743.00 a year. The boat came equipped with the standard Chris Craft K engine a straight 6 which produced 100HP, or the optional V8 with 185HP for the jaw dropping additional fee of $60.00 or about a weeks salary. This boat was equipped with the high performance 283 Corvette engine which became available in the latter part of 1959. The higher horsepower and torque of the Corvette engine made it ideal for pulling skiers. It was also fitted with a center mounted ski pole. Top speed is just over 40 mph. The boat was delivered to Chris Craft Boat Sales Inc. located at 2500 S. Ashland Avenue in Chicago on January 28, 1960. The boat was found rotting and in disrepair in 2000. A complete restoration was performed in 2005. There were 497 Continental’s manufactured from 1959 to 1960. Only 41 are known to still be operating today.

Sporti'n A Woody is a 1959 18' Chris Craft Continental, Hull# CL18-0825. This classic was shipped from Cadillac Michigan on July 31, 1959 to Mairs Marine in Minocqua Wisconsin. She was used as a ski boat and a family pleasure boat for about 8 years and put 236 hours on the engine and was then put away after the family bought a fiberglass boat in the mid 60s. Sporti'n A Woody was then sold to a collector in Milwaukee and put in storage for another long hibernation. Fast forward more then 30 years, yes this boat didn't see the light of day for more then 30 years, she was then put up for sale in August 2001. When we saw her, we had been looking for 2 years, we knew this was a special boat as it was ALL original and still is. The interior, a rare coral color, is in very good condition as is the motor, wood, gauges and even the trailer. Very little had to be done to put her back in bristol condition. Since we purchased her very little work has been done until the winter of 2010. That was the year we had her completly revarnished. Now Sporti'n A Woody has 260 hours on the engine with most of those 24 hours being put on going to our Geneva Lake shows and some evening cruising on those perfect nights. Sporti'n A Woody has won numerious awards including best utility, best Chris Craft, Most original and now Sharpest Arrow. We enjoy participating in the shows and being ACES members.

I got this boat 2 years ago from my cousin Cindy. My family and I use the boat all summer long for skiing, tubing and just cruising around the local lakes in SE Wisconsin. Cindy's mom put this boat in storage in 1965 and Cindy pulled it out in 2005. It looked like barn wood. After a long restoration (9 years) the boat was fully restored and ready for action. The boat was supposed to reside on Lake Tahoe in Tahoe Vista California for the rest of its life. But she soon realized it was to small for such a big lake. So she sent it to me as an early Christmas present. How blessed am I. We love this boat as much as we love Cindy. Well almost.

This boat was made in 1985 at Lake Lorraine in Orlando, Fla, after the first owner died, it was acquired and moved to Saugatuck Michigan where it was restored. Then that owner passed and it was acquired by a Lake Como Family. sadly again this owner passed away. I purchased it 3 years ago and it underwent a total restoration and modifications. It’s on Lake Delavan and draws quite a crowd when we take it out. In fact it’s been called a living cartoon, especially when we add our crew of Popeye and Olive Oil.

1957 Trojan Sea Breeze - 'Walleen 2.1'

Inherited in 2015 from Uncle Wally and Aunt Eileen (owners since 1960), the Walleen has spent her whole life in the Lake Winnebago ports of Neenah/Menasha. This 19' day cruiser was Amish-built by The Trojan Boat Company in Lancaster, PA. The Sea Breeze 28' of the late 1950s was one of Trojan's most historically notable vessels. New to the classic scene, when I took on the 'task' of refinishing, I had no idea what I was getting into. Why didn't someone tell me?!? Restoration performed on location at Nimphius Boats, Inc. under the most generous supervision of Alex Nimphius. The Walleen is driven by the original twin 1957 Johnson 35HP Sea Horses thanks to life-long service from Doug Bodway of Valley Marine Mart, Inc. All-original mahogany decking and plywood hull...with a few custom crafted accoutrements.

My Dad bought this Century in 1956 with funds he saved from his Army draft service. Dad and Mom went boating every summer weekend in the Chicago area and were married in 1958. As a family, we had annual camping trips across the US, which always featured boating. Dad’s Century joined us from Wisconsin to Florida, the Rocky Mountains to Nova Scotia, Michigan to Texas and most places in between. We all learned to ski and then master the Adolph Kiefer Banana Slalom pulled by this Johnson 25hp. I bought the Century from Dad in 1982, was married in 1984 and, in keeping with tradition, our daughter first learned to ski behind it too. We have had many boats over the years, but the one we truly love and learned the most from is … Dad’s ‘55.

This is what I call an “Oh by the way” boat. Four years ago we were in the market for a 60’s vintage outboard motor. We located one in suburban Milwaukee and drove up to take a look. The motor was great and we agreed to buy it and then the “Oh by the way” came up – Oh by the way if you want the motor you need to take the boat and trailer as well! At first glance this boat would never see the water again as it had a nice hole in the hull and delaminating wood. On the way home all I was thinking about was how could I turn it into a bar? Well after getting it home my ideas went up in smoke, as after my son Mitchel, our neighbor Andrew Vogeler and I looked it over, all we would need to do is make the hull repair, varnish and paint and we would have a good all original user boat. So, after a winters worth of work, another wood boat got added to the collection.

Right after world war II Captain Steve Smith, a p-40 pilot in the south pacific, needed something fun to do at his family's lake house in upstate NY. He bought a little 1947 12' Trojan hot shot cottage racer. The new boat was named Lil' Suzy same as his p-40 . He also applied the trademark Flying Tiger shark teeth. Being a fighter pilot instilled aggressive tactics and during Captain Smiths famous last race, he took out three boats with his "wake of death". that stunt got him banned from racing. Following the loss of racing venues, he rolled the boat in the barn where it sat for fifty years. not till he passed away did anyone ask whats' in the barn.. in the corner was Lil' Suzy..

This cedar plank racer was made by the Ole Lind Boatworks in Detroit Lakes Minnesota in 1940. It was discovered in a garage right here in Fontana Wisconsin in 2014 and had not been in the water since 1984. This is my first restoration/slight modification project and it has been a labor of love for the past two years. I decided to add a few items which are not original (gas tank and gauges) to increase the boats usability and a larger motor simply because i like to go really fast.

We are the current stewards of this beautiful 1980 23' direct drive Streblow. Built for the Gallagher family, it has spent its life on Lake Geneva except for a few road trips to New Buffalo, MI, Burnham harbor Chicago, and a spring break to the southern Gulf of Florida where it handled beautifully and turn heads, including a boarding by the USCG "just had to see the boat"! New interior, mahogany dash, and a change to blue bottom paint in 2013. We use the boat as much as possible for cruises and tubing on the lake.

Originally built in Kenosha Wisconsin, by the Streblow Family in 1978 and purchased and operated on Geneva Lake by the Schriber family until we purchased the boat in 2001. After we purchased the boat, we did a light refinish on the exterior and totally replaced the interior, no mechanical work outside routine annual maintenance has been required. The boat was never named under the Schriber family ownership, so I thought long and hard as to why I have this boat and finally came up with an appropriate name. After a 36 year career in the Fire Department, the name "Fire Escape" seemed to fit the bill. Now she sees continual service all summer long providing my wife and I along with family and friends the pleasure of crossing the waters of Geneva Lake in a true classic boat.

We have been the proud owners of three Streblow boat since 1998. Our first Streblow was a 1979 20 foot Straight drive, which transitioned over to a 1983 23 foot V-drive in 2001. Since then we have upgraded to a 1992 26 foot Straight drive, which is named “Serenity”.
We are loving every minute on the lake!!!!
1970 Streblow Sport Utility - 'Mr. T III'

In February 2001, I purchased a 1970 Streblow custom wood boat. This twenty three foot beauty had a great history that accompanied the boat Namely, a gentleman from northern Illinois, William D. Wallace, was a partner in a silver mine with John ‘Duke’ Wayne Wallace purchased the boat new from the Streblow factory in Kenosha, WI.,and they decided to name the boat “HI LO SILVER”, a very fitting name. They operated the pleasure craft on Lake Delavan in Wisconsin, for almost ten years. John Wayne passed away in 1979. With the drop in the price of silver in 1980, they decided to sell the boat. Larry Streblow and son Randy purchased the boat and retuned it to their factory in Kenosha. The Streblow family remodeled the boat and kept it for personal use for a couple of years until it was sold to Gregg Liebovich from Rockford, Illinois. He kept the boat for eighteen years on Geneva Lake. After cruising Geneva Lake over the summer, I load the boat and haul it on my annual journey back to Lake Eustis, Florida, where I, along with the help of my friends, refinished the boat and renamed it ‘Mister T III’. John Wayne would be impressed with the revitalization of “HI LO SILVER.”

This beautiful 19 1/2 ft classic Streblow has been meticulously maintained by award winning boat restorer Jim Murdock, of Vintage Boat Restorations, LLC, Bristol, CT. Five years out of college, the original owner purchased the craft from Larry and Randy Streblow at their site in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The boat spent its early years on Geneva Lake as a family ski boat. The owner moved to Sparta, New Jersey, where he kept it over the summers.
